A Simple Scribing Tool

By Edward Traxler, photos by the author.

The “Old School” way is to "roll-your-own" siding for example using Bristol Board and a scriber. Using the back of an X-ACTO blade doesn't work because it will tear the paper instead of scoring it. Same goes with a sewing needle.

I made up a scriber from a Tapestry needle. The ends of the needles are rounded and the needles themselves come in a wide assortment of sizes so you can basically find what works for you. I cut one off at the eye and inserted into a length of dowel and secured with CA cement.
